Step 1: Initial consultation & assessment
An initial discovery call is booked, followed by an in-person consultation to discuss your renovation goals, budget and timeline.

Step 2: Project planning
Our team puts together a detailed plan that outlines all project elements. At this stage, we ensure that the project scope and budget are in alignment and adjusted as required.

Step 3: Construction & project management
This is when the work begins. Our trade partners are briefed on the project requirements and get to work. Throughout the project, we ensure transparent and direct communication.

Step 4: Completion & handover
At this stage we conduct a final walkthrough to ensure the project meets your expectations. Our team is available post-project handover to answer any questions once you’ve started living in your space.
Hi, I’m Jeff 👋
I started Hinterland Homes because I like building things. Always have. Spaces. Furniture. Houses. Systems.
The company exists because I couldn’t ignore how much I enjoy creating.
My father was a general contractor for forty years. Toronto, Collingwood, Muskoka. He renovated old houses and built beautiful rural escapes. He was meticulous. Patient. A craftsperson in the truest sense.
I worked alongside him for years. Sweeping floors at first. Then framing, trimming, solving problems, learning the art of building.
Later, I gutted and renovated two of my own homes and the desire to build was undeniable. This was the work I wanted to do.
Renovations are insane!
They are expensive. Deeply personal. And almost always disruptive. Your home turns into a construction site. There’s dust where there used to be calm. Decisions pile up quickly. Timelines feel long because you’re living through them.
Because of that, we take the process seriously.
At Hinterland Homes, we plan obsessively before construction begins. We build systems around transparency and accountability. We spend extra time upfront so fewer surprises show up later. The goal is simple:
How much is it going to cost? How long does it take?
Good construction isn’t just about the finished space. It’s about how you experience getting there.
We work carefully. We communicate clearly. And we build the way we would want ours built. Thoughtfully, properly and with great attention to the budget.
